What you’ll learn about California Hemp Farming

California continues to boast a rich history of growth when it comes to industrial hemp. Whether your growing hemp for cannabinoids, fiber or grain, you’ll learn:

  • Regional differences that impact hemp farming
  • Common mistakes (and how to avoid them!)
  • The changing landscape of regulations
  • Today’s market

About Matt McClain of Buenaventura Coast

Matt McClain is COO of Buenaventura Coast, a California-based company that takes a service-oriented approach when working with producers and farmers. Services include contracted production, feminized seed production, AOSCA certification and quality assurance, contracted smokeable flower runs, project modeling and market forecasting, regenerative organic, multi-crop industrial models (fiber, grain, and hurd), customer relations and sales.

About Justin Eve of 7 Generations Producers

A farmer with expertise in plant science and soil chemistry, as well as the Founder of 7 Generations Producers and Eve Management Co, Justin Eve has spent the past 10+ years in the “Green Tech” industry. Professionally trained in sales Justin started in the green technology space in 2007 in the solar industry during Governor Schwarzenegger’s “Million Roof Solar Program” – a 3.3-Billion-dollar program initiated to jump start green technologies in California. Since then, Justin dove more deeply into agriculture, and more recently has been in development of what he calls “the town of the future” focused on small town 25 miles north of Sacramento, CA by the name of Nicolaus which has 350+ residents spread over 3.5 sq. miles. Justin currently lives on the farm with his wife and two young boys in which they are developing a 155-acre parcel into a cutting edge sustainable farm of the future, to prove a model of how farms can be on an industrial scale.

About Kevin Nowell of HiLo Seed Company

Kevin Nowell is a California-based hemp educator and expert who heads HiLo’s Farmer Relations department. He is a born outdoorsman and Eagle Scout who taught himself to farm certified organic vegetables before turning his attention to hemp. He shares his extensive knowledge throughout the country via online webinars, in-person workshops, hemp conferences, and as a lecturer with Farm Journal’s Hemp College. Kevin works closely with farmers across the country — from counseling folks buying hemp seed for the first time, to troubleshooting with seasoned farmers throughout the growing season and post-harvest. In 2019, he field-farmed Autopilot 1.0 on the Central Coast, hitting a 24:1 ratio.
