During Summer Solstice, HiLo’s Head of Farmer Relations Kevin Nowell will give a presentation on hemp genetics as part of our farmer education series Know Before You Grow. He’ll cover the nuances of farming hemp for fiber, grain, and cannabinoids, as well as photoperiod versus day-neutral hemp and feminized versus diecious and monoecious seed.
Kevin Nowell is a California-based hemp educator and expert who heads HiLo’s Farmer Relations department. He is a born outdoorsman and Eagle Scout who taught himself to farm certified organic vegetables before turning his attention to hemp. He shares his extensive knowledge throughout the country via online webinars, in-person workshops, hemp conferences, and as a lecturer with Farm Journal’s Hemp College. Kevin works closely with farmers across the country — from counseling folks buying hemp seed for the first time, to troubleshooting with seasoned farmers throughout the growing season and post-harvest. In 2019, he field-farmed Autopilot 1.0 on the Central Coast, hitting a 24:1 ratio.
